Break time

Ahhhhh it feels good to be done. I think I rocked my endocrinology exam, and now I'm home in Victoria hanging out with my girlfriend! About time! Otherwise I don't have much to post tonight. There are lots more pictures to come though, including the last 3 parties i went too. I won't be able to get a hold of those pics 'til January though.

Christmas at Compton

This is the "Christmas at Compton" house that me and my friends made for the med gingerbread house competition. This ghetto includes dumpsters, a domolished building, burnt windows, a broken basket-ball hoop, and homeless people. We won first place in the "Bad Taste" category!!!

Christmas at Compton 2

This closeup of the Christmas in Compton House shows a couple of guys enjoying a 40 of O.E. You can also see the broken basket-ball hoop in the top left of the screen.

Winter has arrived

Holy crap, winter arrived last Saturday. In a single day the temperature dropped from about 5 degrees celsius, to -22 degrees. And close to -30 with wind-chill. The first thing I noticed when I stepped outside is that your nosehairs begin to freeze and this tickles. The next thing I noticed is that the metal arms on my glasses almost instantly attain ambiant temperature and begin to suck all remaining heat out of my brain. This process is somewhat painful.

Studying like mad

I've been studying lots lately, as my Immunology/Infection/Inflammation final exam is this Friday. I kind of like memorizing huge amounts of information, I'm just not sure if I'll remember this stuff years from now. After the exam on Friday, the parties will begin. I will be accompanying 39 friends for a limo ride with champagne to the Rum Jungle (a club at West Ed Mall), and from there we'll be heading off to the Globe for some more partying with relieved med students. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post from that. Ok back to studying about rashes, malaise, and lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes:)

Pumpkin Carving

Here is the award winning pumpkin we (myself, Monica, and Ryan) carved for this years med pumpkin carving contest. In case you cannot tell, its supposed to be Neo from the Matrix. We won cookies!! Yay!!

Monster Mash

This is at the Monster Mash Halloween Party. I am holding Ahmar up (he has no recollection of this event). Ahmar claims he is dressed up as some sort of porn-star but I'm pretty sure he is Micheal J. Fox from Teen Wolf 2.

Its Fatally Injured Squash Man!!

Here is "Fatally Injured Squash Man", standing beside his room-mate "Gypsy Jess" as we depart for the Halloween party on campus. It turned out to be a pretty good shin-dig, with about 550 showing up to dance and thoroughly embarrass themselves.

I Love School Supplies!

Here I am wearing a $300 stethoscope that I WON the other day in a raffle! At this point all I know about it is that the little ends go in your ears.

Phlebotomy Lab 1

Why is my forehead so shiny? Because it is covered in sweat. I'm holding a vial of blood that Ryan sucked from my arm. My not passing out during this procedure (coming close doesn't count...) was a huge accomplishment for me.

Phlebotomy Lab 2

Here are some med students in the phlebotomy lab, learning how to take each other's blood. I have NO IDEA how i didn't pass out.

Pictures of my room

This is me sitting at my desk and looking towards the door. My place is p
retty bare right now, but it does the trick. The room to the left is my bathroom, and there is a closet at the top right of the photo. The two pieces of artwork on the walls are by Salvador Dali.

Pictures of my room

This is the biggest wall in my room. I took the picture standing on my bed. Notice the sexy turntable directly on top of the mini-fridge (?). I had to move it off of my desk to make room for my new printer. Hopefully I'll be able to get a new stylus soon and get that turntable up and running again. In the meantime I'm going to become a medical doctor.

Pictures of my room

Here is my desk -- where I spend most of my time at home. Notice that green plant to the right of my laptop. I think the "green-ness" means that its still alive. If thats the case than I have no idea how it is still living. Don't plants need water and sunlight or something?

All my money is gone

Yesterday I spent all of the money I've saved in the past 5 years. That's my tuition check for first year at the UofA. Hopefully all that money will go to a good cause... I was actually surprized how easy it was for me to drop off that 10 grand check. I'm normally so cheap I have problems buying new pants.

Another Busy Day

I've been doing tons of stuff lately, including: joining an Ultimate Frisbee team, starting to play squash on a semi-regular basis, running, and volunteering when possible. This is good, as keeping busy not only stops me from becoming home-sick, but also keeps me from just sitting at home playing on my comp all day. The work load in school is still very light, so I should have lots of time to settle down here before the snow/studying begins.

Stir-fry!!

Tonight i cooked myself the first meal I've ever made. Seriously. I've been microwaving soup for about 4 months, and i figured its about time that I learn some basic cooking skills. If I can have no problem in biochem labs, i should be able to follow a basic recipe... With only minor 1st degree burns on my arms, I managed to make this delicious stir-fry!

First Post!

Its really late and I was bored so I made myself a Blog. I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between a Blog and just creating your own website, but I suppose this is easier for the average person. I'm hoping I can use this to post stories for my parents and friends to read from my adventures in med school, and we'll see where it goes from there!
